Institute of Intelligent Systems and Biomedical Information


Brief Introduction:

    The institute of Intelligent Systems and Biomedical Information of the College of Automation develops from the Institute of Pattern Recognition and Intelligent System in 2001 and Institute of Biomedical Engineering in 2002. In November 2015, seizing the opportunity of the reform of the basic academic organization, the College of Automation kept exploring the essence of discipline construction and refining the academic research areas by combining the two institutes above, supporting the two first-level subjects: Control Science and Engineering and Biomedical Engineering.

     The institute now has 22 teachers, including 7 professors, 4 associate professors and 11 lecturers, 19 among which have got their doctorates, and half of the total have the experience of studying for doctorates or conducting one-year cooperative researches abroad in United States, Britain, Canada and Japan. There are members of the Teaching Guiding Committee of Biomedical Engineering of the Ministry of Education, teachers from local famous university, provincial outstanding youth, and provincial youth academic mainstays in the whole staff. Also, teachers of the institute take important positions in many academic organizations and groups, including the experts of academic degrees and postgraduate education evaluation under the Ministry of Education, experts of national 973 and 863 plans, members of service groups composed by academicians and experts in Harbin and members of editorial board or reviewers of many international scholarly journals.

    The institute devotes to international cooperation. Now, it has established strategic partnership with the Center of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics of Indiana University-Purdue University and many institutions of scientific research in different countries such as Britain, Australia, Germany and Netherland. The institute has invited 4 international famous professors successively as the visiting professors and has conducted stable and fruitful cooperation.

   Now, the research areas of the institute mainly focus on pattern recognition and intelligent optimization, studies on bioinformatics and the research and development of biomedical instrumentation. The institute has undertaken many projects such as the National Key Scientific Instrument and Equipment Development Project, National High-tech R&D Program of China (863 Program), Key Program for International S&T Cooperation Projects of China, National Key Technology Research and Development Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) , Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education of China (RFDP), National Defense Basic Scientific Research Program of China, and Military Hardware Pre-Research Foundation of China. Besides, the institute has also made significant achievements, with 1 first prize, 8 second prizes and 10 third prizes of scientific progress at ministerial and provincial level and more than 50 authorized invention patents as well as over 300 published papers. The institute has published 22 works including planning teaching materials at both national and provincial and ministerial level. Some related teachers also take charge of provincial projects of teaching reform such as New Century Innovation Project of Higher Education in Heilongjiang Province and Teaching Reform of Higher Education in Heilongjiang Province with over 20 papers about teaching reform published. Moreover, 2 people won the prize of excellent young teachers on postgraduate teaching(top ten teachers) of HEU and dozens of people won other teaching prizes.

Academic Research Areas:

    The Institute of Intelligent Systems and Biomedical Information is the one centralizing more emerging subjects, having strong international academic atmosphere. The main research areas of the institute are pattern recognition and intelligent optimization. Now, the authentication technology based on biological characteristic such as fingerprints, veins, face, iris and gait takes the lead both on theory and practice in China. The newly-developed molecular bioinformatics interpret issues about life on basis of pattern recognition and intelligent optimization. The institute has conducted high-level researches on many international frontier subjects such as pharmaceutical informatics, gene expression regulation and imaging genetics under the background of international cooperation. For biomedical engineering, the institute conducts researches on space biological analysis instrument, mobile medical technology and surgery aided navigation technology. Meanwhile, the institute also yields fruitful outcomes in many research areas such as underwater target identification and welding robot on a large size.
